Had access to my banking app and tried to empty account (Scam call) reported by


Received phone call on 29-01-2021 informing me of a company attempting to register a debit order on my account. Thought this was legit because Truecaller said it’s an ABSA number. The caller asked me to go on my banking app (didn’t give him any info) to the debit order section. He proceeded to read off my debit orders. Convincing me he could see my info from his side. He did something his side and a notification popped up on the banking app. He told me in order to cancel the debit order I must press accept. Long story short, money from our credit cards were all moved over into the cheque account and money started being deducted. We immediately phoned ABSA fraud and our accounts were blocked. This had to have been an inside job because the caller could manipulate the banking app and also had all our information on hand. This they use to convince you the call is legit. I would like ABSA to explain to me how these criminals got hold of my information and was able to gain access to internet banking without me giving any access details? The genuine ABSA Fraud Dept caller told me that unfortunately there are criminals working from inside ABSA. Now that is scary!

Apparently ABSA, but they phone to sell me crap and ask for my details, however they do this without proving first to me who they are. It could just as well be anybody claiming to be ABSA.
