had all banking data, fishy call, wanted permission to share data (Unsolicited call) reported by


professional sounding man, offering some product or new services, but language and expressions were over the top, a legalese with long sentences on a string, often 2 questions in one, probably deliberate to sound professional, but overall confusing, asked him a few times to repeat. Caller was looking for permission to share banking data with two 3rd parties, who sounded like legit entities - e.g. credit bureau and government fraud center, but have no reason to be connected to my business account for any reason. Business accounts don't have credit cards, unless opened by and with your business manager for very specific reasons, and the bank has its own fraud center that monitors activities on your account, so farming it out to govt or any 3rd party is an enormous added risk, especially for a business account of an accountable institution. He mentioned various accounts and did not know what they were, so this "FNB Business Banking" caller was not fully informed as a banker, although given his access to the data, he had full account information. Wondering if the banking data / account access has been hacked by internal "FNB Business Banking" staff, who mentioned they require POPI Act permission to share your data. Very sophisticated, definitely a scam.

The woman said she was from FNB Business, wanted to offer me more services and check if I’m happy. She wanted to verify if I’m the account holder, she said the town I’m in but wanted me to tell her my address, I declined sighting security concerns. She understood and we ended the call cordially.

Phoned my Cell number and asked to speak to my husband about his bank account with FNB, I responded stating that this is my number not my husband's and then I asked which account and what the concern is and the lady said... Sorry we can not disclose that with you as the system shows that you are not married to your husband. I was like WTF? Then she asked if I know my husband's pin numbers and I responded if I am not married to this guy I shouldn't know his pin and she rudely said something I couldn't make out and hanged up on me.

Got a call from them today saying they are from FNB. Why would FNB phone from a cell number and not a landline!!! Very fishy!!
