Received a missed call from this number and, on returning the call it goes to the SARS contact centre. I checked with SARS that the number is false (the scammer forwards his/her number to the SARS call centre, so you ARE speaking to SARS when you phone back). Their national contact centre number is 080 000 72xxx, NOT the number listed.

The guy who I spoke to claimed to be from SARS. He then proceeded to ask me a few questions including my ID and middle name. I refused to provide them and checked with the SARS helpline if the number is valid. No it’s not it’s a phishing scam.

This guy called, said he is from SARS, and that our company are in arrears on our VAT to the amount of R1.1 million. I know this is bull dust, as we are not overdue on our VAT
